Professor Afework Kassu, state minister to ministry of Science and Higher Education visited University of Gondar (UoG) today. During his visit he discussed on the current status and future directions of the university in its move towards strengthening academic, research and community service activities with the president Dr. Asrat Astedeweyn and Vice presidents - Dr Gashaw Andargie, Dr Meseret Kassie, and Prof. Mersha Chanie. According to the State Minister, universities should come up with researches that solve problems of the community and the nation at large.
After the discussion, the State Minister and UoG officials visited a garden at the junction of Maraki and Tewodros campuses where Cherry seedlings (Sakura in Japanese) were planted in 2013 by Rotarians who are currently visiting Ethiopia and professors from Tokushima University. The Cherry seedlings, which bloom in April, were brought by the Rotarians to strengthen cultural and people to people relations between the two countries.
While visiting the Cherry seedlings garden, Prof. Afework underlined the need to strengthen academic link with Tokushima University based on the academic agreement which was signed in 2007 between the two universities.
