A workshop entitled “North-Eastern Africa Workshop Series on the Role of Science in Assisting Regional Policy Development” is started on 28th of October 2019 in Addis Ababa.
The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) and the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) are hosting a series of science advice workshops from 28th to 31st of October 2019.
In the opening of the workshop Prof. Afework Kassu, State minister of Ministry Of Science and Higher Education (MoSHE) delivered opening remarks and discussion presentations entitled “Evidence-Informed Policy Making: an Ethiopian Perspective”.
In his opening remarks, Professor Afework said “we have the best scientists from home and abroad, practitioners and policymakers. This is a unique opportunity for all of us to address some of the challenges beyond the opportunities and lessons learned on evidence-informed policymaking in Africa”.
The state minister also assured that MoSHE to assure the continued support of the Ministry in future collaborative endeavors in promoting the importance of evidence-based policy/decision making which would raise the importance of science to a higher level.
The workshop series is designed for policymakers and scientists living or working in North-Eastern Africa to enhance capacities in embedding evidence in policymaking at all levels of government.
